COMPETITIONS

APO IBRACON

About EPA Ibracon

Reaching its 60th year, the Brazilian Congress of Concrete, carried out by the Brazilian Concrete Institute (IBRACON), has been gaining increasing importance both in innovation and technology in the country and in the world. This event contains its own schedule, specific technical competitions for students of architecture and civil engineering. Students from several renowned brazilian universities participate in this event, and UFSC - Joinville can not be left out!

One of the great and challenging competitions held at the Brazilian Congress of Concrete is the Egg Protection Apparatus (EPA, in portuguese). This apparatus consists of a reinforced concrete structure in portico form with dimensions and maximum weight (3,700 kg) specific (see regulation). The major objective of this challenge is to implementation of the EPA in the most efficient way possible. That is, maximum resistance and minimal mass loss.

EPA Evaluation

For evaluation of the EPA, a dynamic load is applied to the structure. This upload is provided by the drop of a steel weight of 15 kg in the central region of the beam of the apparatus, this weight being loose of varied heights (1, 1,5, 2 and 2,5m). Below the EPA is positioned an avo represented the human life. While the egg do not lose their integrity, the participating team follows in the competition. Arriving at 2.5m, the tie-breaking criterion is the loss of mass with the impact. Soon, the team performance of the EPA with the strongest and lowest mass variation is designated as the winner of the challenge.

InfraTEC aims to participate in the 60th Brazilian Congress of Concrete, executing and perfecting their project for one year, focusing on high level participation in the EPA 2018 competition.

Protótotipo bridges

About the competition

The Structures sector participates annualy in the Challenge of Bridges promoted by UDESC. Using only popsicle sticks and glue the teams will have to project and build a truss bridge that will be put to a ruptura test. Criterias as estimated bridge weight, estimated rupture load and real rupture load will be measured to form the team’s final score.

Geo-wall

About Armed Land

Geo-wall is a competition based on the Armed Land prototype.
Armed Land is a containment system that uses preformed plate facing fixed to metal strips buried in the compacted mass. This solution is widely used In Brazil and has speed , simplicity and economy advantages. Can be studied By university students using simpler materials such as paper and sand.

Goals

The geotechnical sector of the InfraTEC Team aims to hold the first prototype competition In Joinville, this competition will stimulate the study of this solution largely used. Participants will better understand the soil rupture mechanism and method Structure, using the concepts of Soil Mechanics I , Soil Mechanics II and bibliographies on dimensioning.

The team aims to implement the first competition in Terra Armada at UFSC - Joinville in 2018/1. The style of the competition can be better understood through the video below:
