About EPA Ibracon
Reaching its 60th year, the Brazilian Congress of Concrete, carried out by the Brazilian Concrete Institute (IBRACON), has been gaining increasing importance both in innovation and technology in the country and in the world. This event contains its own schedule, specific technical competitions for students of architecture and civil engineering. Students from several renowned brazilian universities participate in this event, and UFSC - Joinville can not be left out!
One of the great and challenging competitions held at the Brazilian Congress of Concrete is the Egg Protection Apparatus (EPA, in portuguese). This apparatus consists of a reinforced concrete structure in portico form with dimensions and maximum weight (3,700 kg) specific (see regulation). The major objective of this challenge is to implementation of the EPA in the most efficient way possible. That is, maximum resistance and minimal mass loss.
EPA Evaluation
For evaluation of the EPA, a dynamic load is applied to the structure. This upload is provided by the drop of a steel weight of 15 kg in the central region of the beam of the apparatus, this weight being loose of varied heights (1, 1,5, 2 and 2,5m). Below the EPA is positioned an avo represented the human life. While the egg do not lose their integrity, the participating team follows in the competition. Arriving at 2.5m, the tie-breaking criterion is the loss of mass with the impact. Soon, the team performance of the EPA with the strongest and lowest mass variation is designated as the winner of the challenge.
InfraTEC aims to participate in the 60th Brazilian Congress of Concrete, executing and perfecting their project for one year, focusing on high level participation in the EPA 2018 competition.
